We were given the task to illustrate the covers for a magazine called 'New Scientist'. Our requirements were that we design a single page, a spread, and spot illustration. We were given various topics to use as our 'theme'. The masthead was given by the lecturer where we only had to change the words of the article.
The article I chose was "You're So Vain - We're more self centered than we think". The concept I was going for reflects on the subconscious mind where we consider ourselves 'the center of our own universe' hence, I focused on illustrations of the brain, and a human head.
This was meant for the spot illustration where there is an enlargement of our brain cells. As we see the components of the cells, all we see is 'us' hence having the cell 'full of ourselves' and that our self-centeredness comes from the most basic of how we were formed.
This was the illustration for the spread. It is 'us' being in the center of the universe.
